Kindergarten

Fourth and Fifth Grade
Students from each class come to the library on Mondays to check out books. I also visit classrooms to read to them and teach lessons.
Please talk with your child to ensure that your children (O'Donnell students and others in the home) take care of the books while they are in your home. Also double check that his or her book is packed for school on Mondays.

Kindergarten
- I teach units on book care and library procedures, the role of the author and illustrator, parts of a book, elements of a story, multicultural literature, and an author and illustrator study. This year, I am incorporating the centers they are already familiar with from their Focus on K curriculum into the library curriculum as well.
First Grade
- I teach units on book care and library procedures, the role of the author and illustrator, parts of a book, the difference between fiction and nonfiction books, elements of a story, multicultural literature, and the Caldecott Award. This year, I am incorporating the centers they are already familiar with from their Focus on First curriculum into the library curriculum as well.
Second Grade
- I teach units on book care and library procedures, the role of the author and illustrator, the Caldecott Award, the difference between fiction and nonfiction books, and will cumulate with the creation and publication of a book about their culture. Second grade students will study Arthur Dorros before he visits in the spring.
Third Grade
- I teach units on book care and library procedures, call numbers and library organization, characteristics of fiction and nonfiction books, nonfiction text features, and genres. Third grade students will study Arthur Dorros before he visits in the spring.
Fourth and Fifth Grade
- I don't teach these classes every week, but I do help teach research, organization, presentation, and evaluation/reflection skills with their projects.
